Fashion Show Outfits

For this week long internship, we were required to wear all black every show. You may think its boring or hard to find multiple black outfits and still look fashionable, but I have some tips!

Fur is very trendy, and will continue to be on trend throughout next season. For one of the shows, I wore a black fur vest paired with a ribbed long sleeved turtle neck, black shorts, and lace stockings. Wearing stockings under the shorts gave my outfit a more unique look rather than resorting to just wearing black pants.

For accessories this night, I chose to wear a silver layered necklace with black tassels. I recently bought it at Forever 21 and I am in love with it! It makes simple outfits look much more trendy and put together. For shoes I decided to wear these semi-platform heeled sandals surprisingly from Primark!

The second night of StyleWeek I based my outfit around these black jogger-like pants. I wore them with a simple black turtle neck tucked in which made the outfit look a bit more formal.

I decided to wear these black lace-up flats because I thought they went perfectly with the black pants! These ones are from a local boutique in Providence, RI called, Birks! Then for my bag I spiced up the all black outfit with a bright red bag. It is a mini cross-body that I am obsessed with!

Leather pants can be an awesome piece to wear at a fashion show! I received lots of compliments on mine :) I paired them with a black shirt with shoulder cut-outs. These two pieces can be very flattering! For jewelry, I wore a gold triple layered necklace with beaded and jeweled detailing.

For the final show (which was so busy!), I wore this black jumpsuit. It has a very high neck which is a plus, and also has a large cut out on the chest. For me, It was essential to wear something underneath so I went with a bandeau from Express! It has awesome strap detailing on the front of it which looked nice peaking through the cut out in the jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are super comfy and I saw tons of guests wearing them throughout the week! For accessories, I used the same red bag for a pop of color and black heels. I added some loose waves in my hair with the NUME curling wand as well! StyleWeek is a week long fashion show that showcases upcoming and emerging fashion designers to give them amazing press and media coverage. This event is steeply growing in popularity thanks to all its business sponsors, social media, and industry professionals. I was lucky enough to have attended! . I met so many people in the industry and now will recognize lots of familiar faces in Providence. All though StyleWeek was hectic at times, speaking for myself and most of the staff, it still was a lot of fun!

Designers such as Jonathan Joseph Peters (Project Runway), Jess Abernathy, Jeffery Dickerson, Nick Pini, and Alexandra Nam (who created a dress for Lady Gaga), etc, got to showcase their new lines for the upcoming season.

This color was very popular throughout New York Fashion Weeks Spring show! It was seen on many different styles of jackets, dresses, pants and shoes. Designers such as Rebecca Minkoff and Elie Saab’s Spring collections were full of it!

Serenity blue is my favorite Pantone color for this season. Many designers are beginning to incorporate soothing spring colors like this one into their collections. The Pantone colors of the season all pair well together as well! For example, an outfit including Lilac Gray, Serenity Blue, and Rose Quartz Pink would look amazing paired together.

Geometric prints were featured non-stop down the runway! There are so many variations of geometric patterns and even more ways to style them. I am excited to see how they transfer over into stores for street wear!

Vests are a staple piece in everyones wardrobe and were seen in many spring collections this past week. Long vests, professional vests, and moto-vests were some major trends! I LOVE the vest trend and have been seeing it a lot lately. Clearly, they’re not going out of style yet because designers like Alexander Wang, Vera Wang and Coach included them into their spring collections.

DESIGNER BEHNAZ FARAHI: CARESS OF THE GAZE

I was lucky enough to stumble across Behnaz Farahi’s “Caress of the Gaze”. What struck me about the work by the 3D designer and architect located in Los Angeles is the seamless integration of art and science. Her work explores the possibilities and pushes the limits of how we define what we know as normally immobile objects. Imagine clothing no longer being inanimate, but something that responds and reacts to the person who perceives it and the environment in which it exists. Farahi’s 3D Printed Gaze Actuated Wearable does precisely this.
The vest piece that covers the shoulders and chest is made of porcupine like monochromatic quills and is equipped with a small hidden video camera that observes its surroundings.
The video (filmed by Charlie Nordstrom & Elena Kulikova) created to originally portray the attributes of the piece shows the model moving ever so slightly, accentuating the flow of the vest. Her hair is braided and twisted mimicking the curvature of a snake. Her make up is a mirror of the tones of the piece, and as the vest shifts it responds to the man’s eye movement in front of her. The camera flows up and down smoothly, flawlessly displaying the key elements of the design. There is a synchronicity in the video between the flexing of the vest, the tones, and the music that is reminiscent of an animal’s dance.
Behnaz Farahi’s designs are not limited to garments. Her work extends to walls, and architecture, incorporating the same elements of movement in these usually stationed designs.

I am so thrilled to see the evolution in design through the innovation of great artists turned inventors, and to see how the potential in this field is being reached.

For the first time in Bond history, the actual watch worn by 007 is released as a limited edition model. The Seamaster 300 Spectre Limited edition made a very good lasting impression on me from the start. Especially when it's tough because of Rolex having such a strong grip in the mind of so many watch geeks (enthusiasts). Ian Fleming wore a Rolex and mentioned it in his books. The ultimate gent or bad ass spy has one.

You might think crisp whites from head to toe was reserved only for summer and mostly you would be forgiven for thinking so. However white has made an appearance on many catwalks for AW15 and its fresh appeal does not seem to want to abate quite yet.

New York fashion week saw the likes of Victoria Beckham showing structured knits in long flowing gowns shapes, while Paris saw Chanel putting a twist on its classic white suit with some inspired delicate origami detailing, padding out the look for AW15 and beyond.
