| The Fall is nearing and that can only mean one thing, it’s time to shop. The air is turning crisp and the leaves are beginning to transform into the sumptuous autumnal colors of reds and oranges. The time is nearing to put away the flimsy dresses and sandals of summer and swap out for boots and a fabulous coat. On the catwalks for Fall ’15 we’ve seen a lot of vintage inspired beiges, browns, reds and purples with the occasional splash of pastel from designers such as Prada, Miu Miu and Gucci. This season is all about winding down from summer and preparing for the ensuing winter. Think taking a stroll through the fallen leaves in a rich chocolate brown fur coat or bundling up in a thick plaid shirt and suede boots. |
There is plenty to excite your wardrobe this season and freshen up some old looks that have taken a back seat in favor of cleaner, more modern looks that have graced the catwalks and our sidewalks for the past few years. It’s time to dig through your grandma’s wardrobe and get original with your favorite vintage finds.
Just to get you started, here are a few of the season’s favorites to stock up on.
1. Fur
For a real retro splash why not dig out your old family fur or if you don't have one, invest in a new one. This coat will never really go out of style and will last you a lifetime. This classic piece is making a resurgence this fall in a big way. Think Margot Tenenbaum, director Wes Anderson’s most famous female protagonist, or if you are not familiar with his work then think of 1930’s Hollywood luxury at its height.
Wear with one of this seasons must have full suits (Burberry and Gucci currently offer a beautiful selection) or try a more relaxed approach with some 70’s inspired super high waisted jeans and a black turtle neck. High waist, high neck are the new staples that will see you through the fall and winter.
2. Fringing
Leather and suede fringing on just about everything is à la mode right now and will continue to be so for the next few seasons. One very easy way to incorporate some fringing into your wardrobe is to select the perfect black suede bag. It can accompany your retro inspired outfit or add it to a sleek pair of white jeans and cream off the shoulder top for a twist on a contemporary look.
Go all out with a 70’s style fringed jacket, either biker or hippie, your choice, the fashion-scape is wide open this season so mix and match and have some fun.
3. Plaid, plaid, plaid
A grungy favorite, this trend isn't going anywhere this Fall. Grunge has made a full return so it's time to don some Doc Martens, ripped jeans and an oversized plaid shirt. But the fun doesn't stop with shirts, the trend ripples into skirts, trousers and even jackets so get plaid happy, just make sure you only choose one piece per outfit.
This style is effortless and comfortable and will leave you feeling cosy and warm while looking incredibly cool, as the weather changes to something more brisk. Make sure to over line your eyes and dishevel you hair to complete the look.
There are a few ways to go Vintage this fall and these three trends are just the tip of the ice burg. The great thing about vintage is that you can mix and match styles and eras to create a style that is uniquely you. Don't be afraid to try something a little different or outside your comfort zone, you might just like it.
