New York Fashion week even though it’s not yet over, has some of the biggest trends for the sunny months.

1. Plunging V Neckline

Been featured at least once in almost every runway show so far, it’s also all over the streets and the red carpet. Whether it’s a dress or a suit jacket. The super low-cut no bra look is this year’s hottest staple. The reason that this neckline is suddenly so popular is because women love to feel sexy without feeling overexposed—and the plunging v is the perfect median. This look has it all: it’s chic, classy, fierce and flattering.

2. Transparency

Lace, sheer, mesh, cutouts—it doesn’t matter which, they are all in. From Houghton to Givenchy, flaunting a little bit of skin has never been so craved by designers. This trend first started appearing all over the red carpet in 2014, most memorably Rhianna in a completely see-through dress made of Swarovski crystals at the CFDA awards. Whether you’re freeing the thighs or just showing off your arms, transparency brings the perfect amount of edge to any outfit.

3. Ruffles

You thought they were mostly abandoned in the early 2000s? Well you were wrong. Ruffles are sweeping the S/S runways, being utilized in three main places: as a bold one-shoulder sleeve, on mermaid hems and as an accent on strapless dresses. This trend shows that some designers still want to keep at least one foot out of the gender-neutral door, restoring a familiar feminine touch to the spotlight.

4. Paper bag Waist

A couple of years ago, I was hardly familiar with this type of waist and now I’m seeing it in almost every Ready-to-Wear show this season. It makes complete sense—the exaggerated hourglass figure is what everyone covets and the paper bag waist is the perfect piece for just that. The elastic cinched waist paired with the oversized legs and sprouting top creates the perfect illusion for any occasion.

5. Baggy, Boxy and Oversized

This is a crucial one. Despite the public obsession with curves, the runways are filled with oversized pieces, boxy silhouettes and baggy pants. I’m not over exaggerating when I say everything is oversized, but the two most important pieces I want to mention are pockets and jackets. Large, attention-grabbing pockets on skirts, shirts and even dresses are a casual staple. Not to mention that almost every jacket featured in the released lines is oversized, especially pea coats. Designers are stepping away from femininity and showcasing more masculine shapes. This is not only a great move towards gender-neutrality in clothing, but it also proves that designers are taking a lot of inspiration from the trends of the ‘80s and ‘90s.

6. Fringe

The ‘70s are alive and well in fashion and fringe is the main evidence. On pant hems, sleeves and everywhere in between, fringe is definitely taking over the scene and it isn’t just for boho styles. It’s such a vital part of the S/S lines that as I was scrolling through the looks I kept questioning what decade I was in. I’d definitely say fringe is the biggest accent this season and whether you’re for it or not, it’s blowing your way.

7. Denim

Five years ago, denim on denim was an absolute sin in the fashion world, but now it’s trending all over the runways and has been on the streets since last year. Pharrell even rocked a Canadian tuxedo at this year’s VMAs. Further confirmation that the ‘70s are back, denim maxi skirts are on models and in stores and the classic high-waisted bell bottoms are more prominent than skinny jeans. Denim is going to be a staple piece in these coming up seasons, so you better make sure your closet at least has a jacket.

8. Jumpsuits

Have I mentioned that the ‘70s are back?? There were nearly as many jumpsuits as there were dresses and it’s no surprise. They have been creeping their way into stores for months now and designers are only reaffirming that the trend is staying on board. Though they make bathroom breaks more difficult, jumpsuits spice up your usual routine and can be worn on a regular day or at a fancy event. You can’t go wrong.

Givenchy Showcases More Than Fashion During NYFW

http://www.lvnlux.com/events/givenchy-showcases-more-than-fashion-during-nyfw

http://www.lvnlux.com/events/givenchy-showcases-more-than-fashion-during-nyfw#comments

Fall

Fashion Show

 	 		 			 				 					 						   (function(jQuery) {function init() { wSlideshow.render({elementID:"881604538533451446",nav:"none",navLocation:"bottom",captionLocation:"bottom",transition:"fade",autoplay:"1",speed:"3",aspectRatio:"auto",showControls:"true",randomStart:"false",images:[{"url":"1/9/6/2/19622631/1799595.png","width":"400","height":"50"},{"url":"1/9/6/2/19622631/3695679.jpg","width":"400","height":"601"},{"url":"1/9/6/2/19622631/5421168.jpg","width":"400","height":"600"},{"url":"1/9/6/2 [...]

By Michelle V.
Follow on Twitter
@Michelle_LVNLUX

The elaborate setup, a star studded filled show and hosting the show on the 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Riccardo Tisci managed to turn his Givenchy Spring 2016 show in New York City one for the fashion books.

While this was the first show in America for the French maison, it certainly did not disappoint.

Attendees sat on Pier 26 with a set created from recycled pieces, multi level platforms and performers staged throughout.

If the scenery was not enough, Marina Abramovic, an artistic director who worked with Tisci on designing the set, added musicians performing religious songs in six different languages.

As Abramovic had stated in an open letter posted on Givenchy’s Instagram page, the setup of the show was to honor the day tragedy struck America 14 years ago.

Tisci also made this less of an invite-only show and gave away hundreds of free tickets to the general public, which really embodied the message that the show was aiming for, respect and a sense of humanity.

But of course, this was still a fashion show and digressing back to the collection, it made the attendees and virtual viewers take a glimpse into Tisci’s history at the luxurious fashion house.

The 88 looks ranged from lingerie inspired dresses, silk coats to menswear. Other looks that strutted the runway were slip dresses, details of lace and a lot of sheer as to leave nothing left to the imagination.

Tisci showcased some looks that mirrored some of his earlier pieces such as his haute couture collections.

One piece modeled by a longtime muse of Tisci, Joan Smalls, a black suede strapless form fitting dress with a slit opening and a cascading effect at the bottom; it was reminiscent of a very similar dress Tisci had created in one of his earlier collections.

The color palette that dominated the show was the classic black and white.

The makeup by famous makeup artist, Pat McGrath, reflected the essence of the collection: dark lips, bleached eyebrows and intricate jeweled masks to match the equally remarkable haute couture inspired pieces.

Many of Tisci’s muses walked the runway from Mariacarla Boscono to Raquel Zimmerman.

Designers from some of the best-known brands came to support such as Alexander Wang, Michael Kors and Vera Wang.

As marvelous as the show was from the collection to the high profile attendees, Tisci’s overall presentation made an important statement about society. Whether it was the gleaming lights to remember the twin towers or joining songs from different languages to unite all.
